Even though Hadith is the second fundamental source of Shariah after the Qur’an, many are unaware of the history, science and classification of Hadith. In this course students will be introduced to the sciences of Hadith based on Imam Ibn Hajar al-Asqalani’s calssical work on the nomenclature of the Hadith scholars.
We will be covering two aspects on the discipline of hadith nomenclature (mustalah al-hadith) and the authentication of transmitted reports. This class will focus on both understanding the importance of hadith while also taking the students on a journey of a compilation of a 40-Hadith.
Both books covered in this class are by Ibn Hajar al-‘Asqalani. They will be seamlessly intertwined to help students learn and understand the concepts of hadith while reviewing some narrations compiled by Ibn Hajar. Many important questions on Isnaad, authenticity, the books of hadith, difference between hadith and sunnah will be covered in this class.
